I wake up everyday
I greet the sun with a wry smile
If it could talk it might say,
"What's the over/under for days slept away?"
But I just wave it away,
say "ten thousand lumens is over the top"
Under the covers I'll stay
Wait for the moon to rise over me
I'll hear it say,
"Man you're falling apart,
but I will stay till the lights could me back on"
In my dreams I'm running the streets naked
Behind me, I'm starting to feel something big
is nipping at my heels
This ain't how I used to feel
In my dreams I'm losing my teeth, I'm crying
I can feel the blood, it's filling my cheeks
I can hear someone softly whispering
"How late ng can you keep your feet?"

On the wings of an afterthought, we were bourne
With heads bowed we huddled up, keeping warm
Formed the Word with our breath and tongue, looking for
a name for the Thing we were suffering for,
a cure for the silence we came to abhor
Gather things just to wall them up, call it "mine"
Ask the night sky to fill the cup--give a sign
Pull on strings till the garment's gone just to find
The same weed that grows in the back of our minds:
the Nothing that creeps till the center it finds
Something's wrong with our minds
